CL Project 3- Landscape Project

In this final project, we were required to form a group of 6 and select a 10m x 10m site within the campus. A green space proposal should be initiated on the site chosen after a site analysis was done. The master plan and planting plan are required to be presented in 2 A2 boards. Details are to be put into a report including concept, master plan, planting plan, costing (bill of quantities), and construction detail as well as maintenance plan.
  • The Progress
I had formed a group with 5 other members, who were Jessie, Jaclyn, Jennifer, Jia Yii and Zhen Li. I was nominated as the leader and to be honest, this really stressed me out a bit when I first know my members' decision. Without wasting time, we started to search for a suitable site and works were divided afterwards. Finally, we came up with a green rooftop garden proposal in our site at block D level 2. There were some disagreement of thoughts among us during discussion when luckily we had finally come up with a proposal which we were all satisfied of at last.

The plan of our rooftop garden before upgraded to the final one.
This previous was lacked of green plants and sustainable elements.

  • Final work

Here are our 2 presentation boards showing our green space proposal.

Board 2

Here is our final project report.

Reflection:
Through this project, I had gained my knowledge in landscape planning and green elements in construction. It is truly a tough progress from initiating a landscape project until the maintenance planning of it. There are plenty of knowledge needed including the selection of plants, the budget costing, regulations and maintenance etc. Therefore, I value the responsibilities of every team players of construction industry in making projects to benefit the community.
TGC logo I learned to communicate better with my other group members to come up with better ideas solutions for the project given. Every opinions should not be ignored as tolerance is important in team work.
TGC logo This project taught us in thinking and problem solving skill. It is good to always think of the consequences when making the next step during the progress of  completing the project, similar to the completion of this final project.

CL Project 2- Sustainable Landscape

This project was divided into two phases. For phase 1, we were given a task to conduct a case study on the green cities planning from a list given. We were required to research on the green cities, community, sustainable cities and how it benefits the economy, social and environment. Then, we should be selecting a site in Kuala Lumpur and make research includes on the interaction of spaces, human activity and their responses that can be relate to the given site. We also need to study its existing cultural landscape, connectivity, circulation, context and built form of each area.
Green cities listed are Copenhagen, Chicago, Seoul, Singapore, Auckland, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Stockholm and Melbourne
KL site list:RAPID LRT  : Kelana Jaya, Wangsamaju, Taman Jaya, Pasar Seni and Masjid Jamek
RAPID Komuter : Subang Jaya or Bank Negara
KL Monorail : KL Sentral or Bukit Bintang
For phase 2, the task given was to choose two elements from our KL site and design an A4 pamphlet to introduce our site, ideas and how we can improve it to be more sustainable.

  • The Progress
I had chosen Barcelona as my green city and Bukit Bintang as my site. In a group with all members with the same places of case study, we began to work in group and visit the KL site together.
Here are some photos taken during our site visit.

Collecting information from our site and
we used a mobile apps- Runtastic to know our
directions and distance travelled.

A summarized project brief given by out tutor, Mr Cherng Yih.

  • Final work
Here is my pamphlet introducing my site and the green cities planning taken from Barcelona to be implemented in my site- Bukit Bintang.

Reflection:
Through this project, I had learnt more about many green cities approaches and principles of other countries and how do people apply them in their daily lives. Our country is now learning from other top green cities to improve and sustain our community's future. It would be a long progress to become a successful green city so I truly value it and I would always support and be part of the green citizens.
TGC logo I learned to put theories into practice. In this case, I am able to apply my information gathered and knowledge learned from research into a pamphlet. Having knowledge is not the most important, we need to know how to apply it into practices, not just stuck in in our mind.
TGC logo I had trained my thinking and problem solving skill. This project allowed me to think more critically on how to improve the current condition of my site and to think creatively to obtain more personal ideas to be added.

ICI Project 3- Small Construction Project

In this final project, we were given a task to form a group of 2 and find a specific land of 30m x 30m within our campus area. In the site, a small construction project should be initiate and the details and proposal were required to be done in report form. The proposal should serve one of the following purposes:
Recreation Area
Study Enhancement Area
Rest Area
Food and Beverage
Commercial Area

  • The Progress
I had found a partner named Yee Zhen Li who was in the same tutorial group as mine. We both agreed on doing a recreation area proposal. And then the serious work get started. Every tutorial session with Ms. Norma, our tutor was used to show our group progress. We took up to almost 3 weeks and finally come up with our master plan which was approved by Ms. Norma. It was a construction of a mini stadium in the campus which serves as a recreation area.
Measuring our 30m x 30m site
Analyse and understand the structure of our site

  • Final report

Reflection:
What I learnt most in this project was to document my observations and ideas into a proposal report to be presented to the clients. It was a long process as we need to do a lot of research on how our construction would benefit or affect the community within the campus. I also learned to analyse a given site to decide the steps and materials of construction on it.
TGC logo I realized that the quality of content of the report depends on our ability to apply our knowledge, information gathered and ideas into it.
TGC logo There was so much to think about to come out with a proposal that suit the users or community. I learned about critical thinking and creative thinking to get better ideas that comfort and attracted the users at the same time.

ICI Project 2- The Building Team

This project was divided into 3 parts. For part I,  we were given a task to interview the key people in construction industry. In a group of 5, we were required to select a firm of the given type of business and research on the films. For part II, we were asked to interpret the information gathered from part I to produce a short video of creative visual presentation or any physical performance. Part III was an individual task where we were required to make a 6 pages magazine to demonstrate our understanding of the chosen elements in part I. The people that we could choose to interview are listed as below:

Architect
Contractor
Interior Designer
Developer
Structural Engineer
Project Manager
Quantity Surveyor
M&E Engineer
Landscape Architect

  • The progress
We had formed a group of 5 with the same members as project one, including Yvonne, Iryana, Jessie, Zhen Li, Jolyn and me. A short discussion among us in class made us decided on interviewing a landscape architect. Yvonne, as our leader requested for an interview session with a film named Seksan Design. Click here to visit their site. It was a smooth progress.

Let's start our journey from Taylor's University.
First time being so formal in our wearing.

Here we finally reached! I slowly opened the door...

And the place truly amazed us. Most of the decorations were related to nature.

Say hello before our interview

My magazine

Reflection:
Through this project, I had expanded my knowledge on construction industry especially the landscape architect. All members in the building team play their role in contributing to the construction industry and they help balancing the natural and built environment. I learned to appreciate and value their profession as well as their professional responsibilities towards our environments.
TGC logo Meeting the requirement of the brief is the utmost vital part in completing this project. I learned to put the requirements and information obtained into every parts of this project. In simple terms, I am now able to put theories into practices.
TGC logo Communication between all group members resulted in smooth progress of this project. I am glad to have group members with so much positive thoughts and values. I can easily communicate with them to know each other's opinions. I learned more things from them.
TGC logo Thinking skill is another thing I learned especially for the video part. It involved creativity where we need to think more. Other than that, this skill was applied when we thought of the questions we wanted to ask during our interview.

ENBE Project 2- Better Livable Town

This final project was divided into 2 parts, Part A and Part B. For part A, the task given was to propose a better future town in a report and produce a short video presentation to describe the town. For Part B, in groups we were required to produce a physical model (using recyclable materials) of the selected town for each group and make 2 to 3 A2 presentation boards to further explain about the town.

  • My Progress (Part A)
My group chose to propose a town on a small island. After some research on island and what makes a good livable town, I started to plan and propose my own future town.
  • Final individual report

  • Final video presentation

  • The Progress (Part B)
The selected town in my group was further investigated to be made as a physical model and be presented on boards. It was a long progress of making the town model. Here are some photos of our progress.

Starting from the first measurement of materials.

Then the making of the base of model using recyclable material, newspaper.

The small wooden buildings that we cut using the saw which was one of the most tiring part.

Until the little details of the town model.

Doing the presentation boards

Reflection:
It was a long process until it came to the final presentation day but we had finally done it! I learned more about the impact between natural and built environments. Sustainable elements are important nowadays as green living has become one of the vital part in the universe. To create a better liveable town, the sustainable approaches should be in the first place in order to sustain our nature.
TGC logo Theories taught in lectures and requirements stated on the brief should be put into our works.
TGC logo I learned to analyse and solve the problems of overcrowded situation in a town and adding sustainable approaches to propose a better liveable future town.
TGC logo In group work, communication is the tool to produce a better final work. In this project, this comprises the making of town model and the presentation boards.
TGC logo In doing the presentation boards, I had trained myself in using computer softwares such as Adobe Photoshop CC.

CTS Project 2- Re-branding of A Daily Object

This final project was about re-branding of a daily object given. It was divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. In part A, we were given a task to individually prepare a proposal to re-brand and repackage the given object. As for part B, we were required to produce an advertisement video, a poster and a sale and promotion presentation in groups. The daily objects are as shown as below:
  1. Duct tape
  2. Straw
  3. Peeler
  4. Sewing measuring tape
  5. Parcel string
  6. Cotton buds
  7. Safety pins
  8. Tooth brush
  9. Dishwashing sponge

  • My Progress (Part A)
My group was given a dish-washing sponge as our product. For the first tutorial session, I came up with some ideas for the brand name and a packaging. The brand names were rejected because they were not so related to the object while the packaging was considered okay but amendments were asked by the tutor. Here is the idea process of my packaging.
A paper mock up packaging. inspired by soap bar container.

Improved version with holes on it for water flow during dish washing.

Plastic packaging trial.

This photo shows how the customers reuse the packaging and place the sponge after washing.

A better bottom cover for the packaging.

  • Final Packaging
Here is my final product packaging with the brand name, logo, instructions, bar code and caption. The final brand name was called epzob, came from the word absorb, which shows the characteristic of a dish washing sponge.
  • Final Report

  • The progress (Part B)

One of the packaging from our group was chosen to be used for part B. It is as shown as below.
It can be used to squeeze out the excess water using the rope after washing.

  • Final advertisement poster
The new name and tagline were given after the agreement of all group members. This poster created shows the strength and quality of the dish-washing sponge where customers will be amazed of it when cleaning.
  • Final advertisement video
An advertisement video for our product, Scruby the dish-washing sponge.

  • Final presentation day

Reflection:
It was a long process until the final presentation of this project. From part A to part B, I have gained more matured in my thinking skill. The re-brand and creating new packaging parts challenged my creative thinking and problem solving skill. I was allowed to understand the modes of thinking commonly associated with critical thinking, creative thinking and holistic thinking, which involved the whole brain.
TGC logo I learned to understand and meet the brief requirements in order to put those theories into practice, including the completion of individual proposal as well as the group advertisement.
TGC logo Creative thinking is vital for the dominant parts of this project, comprising the proposal, packaging, video and promotion presentation. I learned to put in my ideas and thoughts to be discussed in the group.
TGC logo  Team collaboration is also one of the thing I had learnt. During the process until the presentation, we were supposed to communicate and tolerate with each other to obtain the best final work. I learned to give and to take everyone's opinions so that we could learn more from each other.
