PSY Final Project- Group Project and Presentation

Here comes the final work! In this project, we were required to come out with a built environment design in a group of about 4-7 members that could reflect social theories and concepts that we intended to elaborate on. All the drawings should be presented on a piece of mahjong paper with proper title and annotations. A write up was to be done to explain the details of our plan and the social concepts applied. After all, we were to present our work verbally as a group and record it down for marking and reference.

The intended outcome of this project is to apply social theories in our plan and presentation as well as to understand various social issues and circumstances in our current society.

Reflection

I have realised that a built environment could be designed to bring positive effects on our social world only after this project was done. It was a fun process planning with my group members on our intended design.

 Discipline Specific Knowledge

I learned about applying social theories into a design of a park based on our current society trends and needs such as providing outdoor facilities for the adults and skate park for the children and teenagers.

 Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

Planning on a space requires creative and critical thinking so that our proposal could be great and the most important is to make it functional and suitable to the users. We have discussed several times to get the best ideas for this project.

 Communication Skills

Not only communicate among group members, we have gained confidence in verbally presenting our work to others. I learned to give and accept opinions from others so as to achieve the ideal outcome.

It is also important to know our part for the presentation so that it could be done smoothly as a team.

 Citizenship and Global Perspectives

Last but not least, I learned to understand more about our current social issues and values. It is good and easier to propose our space design if we are aware of the values and opinions from different perspectives.

PSY Project 2- Comic Script

Second project was one of my favourite. It was to individually come out with a comic script to present our own chosen topic in this whole module of Social Psychology. The great parts were that we could finally do something different than just essays and we could choose any topic we like as long as it is in the module. The main intended outcomes of this project is applying social concepts through a form of comic illustration and understanding people as social beings.

I have chosen parenting styles as my main focus for my comic. And here is my final outcome.

Reflection

Through my research for this project, I have gained a wider knowledge in parenting style including many different types of it and the mechanism of how parents affect their children's future behaviour.

 Discipline Specific Knowledge

I am now able to understand issues regarding social theories and organised them to be presented in a sequence of drawings.

 Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

To produce a comic requires creative and critical thinking so that readers could understand our intention or approaches.

 Communication Skills

It is important to plot the story accordingly and arrange my comic panel wisely as a good way of communication with readers.

PSY Project 1- Individual Journal

In this first assignment of Social Psychology, our task given was to write individual journals in context with the social concepts we had learnt to show our understandings on them. There were two separate journals we had to do based on topics given.

Journal 1

For the first journal, we were required to make a short write up for a visual social behaviour we could observed and captured in our daily lives. The behaviour captures could be in a form of drawing or photo. The intended outcome of this journal is to apply social psychological theories to our personal lives and that of others as well as to understand people better so that we could interact well with others.

While for the second individual journal, our task was to describe the mechanism of persuasion and stereotype or prejudice reflected in a printed advertisement found in newspaper or magazines. The intended outcome is to encourage us understand the current living context and to gain awareness to social elements in persuasion, prejudice and stereotype.

Reflection

Throughout this first individual assignment, I have learnt more about social theories and concepts as well as to appropriately apply them in my daily lives with people. It is crucial to understand ourselves and others in order to have great interaction and avoid unnecessary conflicts with others.

Not only understand the social psychological concepts in theories, I learned to put them into practice in my daily life.

 Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

I have also learnt about analysing what I could observe in social settings and identify the social mechanism reflected so that I could locate the information obtained well.

BUS Reflective essay

Throughout the whole module of Introduction in Business, the important lessons that I have gained are that a business could not be done individually. It requires different human resources to operate a business. Even if you are being a sole trader, you will need to get help from suppliers, your workers, customers and even your competitors. I personally think that teamwork is crucial in managing a business. Other than that, I found ability to give good ethics such as avoiding illegal and immoral actions in the working environment are one of the most important criteria in businesses operation. Even if a businessman has professional knowledge and great skills in handling his goals and people, he has to make good use of his ability to serve his customers in a positive manner. Being an immoral business person could only bring negative effects on our society and even his own self. All the lessons learned in this module are important to help me in my future probably in my own financial control, investment and also confidentially choose the best products and legal services.

Business ethics is one of my favourite topics as we get to know the right and wrong in a business environment. It requires thinking to justify and to make the best decisions in being ethical in our daily lives, not only in doing a business. Sometimes, hard choices ought to be made as we would somehow have to sacrifice something really meaningful to us in order to go for better final outcomes.

The topic that did not grab much of my attention was the very long process of managing businesses. There is much to remember and memorize. Anyway, I learned about the importance of it and would try to apply it in real life.

As an overall, I am glad and grateful to have a chance of getting deeper knowledge about business as I was totally clueless about it before I came to this course. I like the way the lessons were taught and it really gave me much experiences not only in theories but in a practical way.

BUS Project 2- Charity Drive Event

Here comes the final project. In a group of 4, we were given a task to carry out a charity drive event within the campus. We had to decide on a charity organization that we would like to donate all of our profit earned to it. 

The intended outcome is to let students understand and analysis the human resources management, marketing, production and finance in businesses. Other than that, this project intended to allow us to explain social and ethical responsibility issues as well as to undertake leadership roles and make good decisions according to the business environment.

 I have practically learned about a business operation, strategies, finance and how to confidentially adapt to the business environment to achieve our targets.

Creatively think about how we want to enhance our sales productivity and manage the finance were challenging and the throughout the process and circumstances met, we really gained a lot of good experience.

Be aware of different opinions and values from different perspectives are very important in handling a business.

BUS Project 1- Business Plan Presentation

In this first project of Introduction to Business, we were given a task to choose a nature of business and make an appropriate business plan for it. The topic was to be presented in a 10-minute group presentation in class. The main intended of this project is to understand different types of businesses, explain their goals, functions and describe analysis the theories in businesses.

Reflection:

I learned about the basic knowledge in business operation, management and financial control through this project.

Ability to creatively and critically think about the strategies of marketing is very crucial towards reaching a business goal.

In the business plan presentation, it is important to be aware of others' opinions and understand the value of others.
